Jodhpur, May 13 (ANI): Aiming to materialise its ambitious plan of harnessing solar energy to run trains, the Indian Railways is set to run its first train powered by the solar panels. Indian Railways, which has envisioned a plan to generate 1,000 MW of solar energy by 2020, claims to be on track to become the largest harvester of rooftop solar plants.
Gopal Sharma, PRO of North Western Railways, said the trial run of this train will be conducted by the end of this month. The solar power is expected to significantly bring down diesel consumption.
